New Mexico House District 22 faces a variety of issues regarding our roads & bridges. In having been redistricted to include both Bernalillo and Torrance Counties, I am committed to taking a two factor approach. I understand that there are limited amounts of capital outlay money that I receive as a legislator. As a result, I will work with our Department of Transportation, County Governments and Municipalities to find outside funding sources to improve our roads and bridges.

Part one of my plan is to delineate the two sets of issues present in the district. The first being maintenance vs. repair needs facing Torrance and Bernalillo County. After determining which areas require a maintenance approach versus a repair approach, I will work with necessary departments and governments to find funding solutions.

Part two of my plan is to determine which parts of the district need an expanded maintenance network. After determining the expansions necessary, I will work with the appropriate leaders to find a means to seek funding, or pass legislation to appropriate monies to the Department of Transportation to expand these maintenance networks.

I am deeply committed to also making sure that our workforce, that builds our infrastructure, receive a living wage. Though this is an economic/financial issue, it impacts our ability to get this job done. New Mexico’s pay must be competitive to retain workers in these necessary fields.
